Lightbulb Mom?s Birthday Card ? 2011

My mother has always loved beautiful cards.  For as long as I can remember, she used to comment on how beautiful the cards were that I bought for her.  Well, once I started creating cards, I have had to make sure that the cards I create for her are complex and beautiful.  I saw a similar card and knew that it would be perfect for Mom.  I can’t seem to locate my notes on who I was originally inspired by for this card, so if you recognize it, please let me know so I can give proper credit.

There’s a lot going on in this card – way too much to go into too much detail, I’m afraid, but I did want to point out a few things.

First off – the lattice.  Yes, I painstakingly weaved each of those 1/4″ strips of paper.  It’s not hard – especially if you have Stampin’ Up!’s Grid Paper.  Once you have your center punched out, you use repositionable glue to tack it to the grid paper diagonally and use the grids to lay down your strips in one direction.  Then, just like you did back in art class, you weave the paper strips going in the opposite direction still using the grid paper as a guide.  Not hard at all, just a little tedious.  Mom’s worth it though!

Next – did you notice the dual texture on the Soft Suede mat surrounding the lattice?  Before all of the paper weaving took place, I ran it through the Square Lattice Embossing Folder and then through the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder.  I like that it toned down the first texture a bit and gave it that something extra.

The butterflies were stamped first with the A to Z Mini Background stamp and then with the Herb Expressions stamp.  Love the way that turned out.  As I do with all of my butterflies, I have glued down the center of the butterfly and popped the wings up using Dimensionals.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Happy Stamping
